HEIDI'S HIGH

Towering Alps!
Imposing:
Magnificence and
Grandeur!

We come
Like pilgrims
Going to Rome,
But these
Towering places,
The Gods
Mostly keep
Wrapped in
Misty, dreamy clouds,
Only occasionally
Peeling back
The heavy covers
To give us,
Mere mortals,
A peak at
Eternal Beauty.

The valley village,
The temple offering
Of pretty
Wood chalets
Adorn with
Multi-colored
Flowers to
Tempt the Gods.

We pilgrims
Peep about
The huge, massive,
Perpetual Mountains
In the mist
And drizzle,
As it was
In primordial times,

Hoping that the
Gods Grace
Us with
Glorious sunlight.

But the Mountains'
Concerns are timeless:
Homo sapiens will
Come and go,
But the
Inspiring earth-
Eternal peaks
Will go on and on,
Unconcerned with
People's petty cares,

A few of
Us mortals
Will spy the
Eternal beauty
And Grace,
And carry it
With us in
Our hearts
Thru all
Our lives!

DREAMY

And the kid dreams of
Pushing off to sea
Someday, but, now,
He daily meets the 17:30
Northward bound
Coastal steamer.

Now, he rides his
Ten-speed bike,
Like the Wind,
At the sonorous
Blast of the steamer's horn:
Hooong-ge-Hong!
Hooong-ge-Hong!

His heart leaps and
(He had almost forgotten-
Playing at Vikings
High in the Hills) and
He leaps on his
Current day ship
And races the
Steamer to port.

He's the straw boss
For unloading and loading:
Passenger and freight,
Off and on.

His high point
Comes when the
Kindly Norwegian stevedore
(No unions here
To interfere!)

Allows him to untie
One of the giant
Umbilical cables,
Thicker round
Then his arm,
Setting the steamer free.

Then his heart jumps
As he lets the giant
Cable go,
"I'll go with you,
One day, I will,
For sure, to see
The other sides
Of these
Great Seas,"

And, he races the steamer
On his bike
Down the quay
Looking longingly.

MAJESTIC TRANQUILLITY

Quiet,
So that my
Ears ring.

On top
Cable car mountain
Tromso Island, Norway.

Hot, never-setting sun,
Patches of snow,
Mountain tops,
Flowers burst to bloom.

Snow covered peaks
Ring round,
Water surrounds the base.

Distant chirp
Of birds below,
Sonorous boom
Of coastal steamer's
Arrival trumpet:
Quiet-tranquillity,
Quiet-peace.
