A year for justice

After so many unfair things happening in 2004, beginning with the preemption of America's Next Top Model by the State of the Union Address last January, continuing on through the collapse of Howard Dean's Presidential campaign, and culminating in President Bush's reelection and finally the Christmas tsunami, I would like to think that there will be some justice backlash this year. A couple satisfying events that occurred shortly before the new year included the election of Viktor Yushchenko (once quite foxy and now hideously disfigured after surviving an attempt on his life with dioxin poison) as President of the Ukraine, and the hugely embarassing withdrawal of Bernard Kerik's nomination for U.S. Director of Homeland Security following numerous scandals, including a secret wife. Already this year, the corrupt system of independent radio promotion has ended, thanks in part to Eliot Spitzer, the next governor of New York. And on the horizon is the trial of Alberto Gonzales, President Bush's top choice to replace John Ashcroft as U.S. Attorney General, for his involvement in the Abu Ghraib torture scandal. May justice prevail, and I'm not just saying that because he is fat and Republican.

Sometimes hoping is not enough, like when the weather leaves thousands of people homeless and starving in Indonesia and the surrounding areas. That is when we take matters into our own hands by giving money to the victims of the tsunami (thanks for the link, Dana). This catastrophe is worse than anything that has happened since I've been alive. Just give something.
